Review: Digidesign Mbox 2 Mini Recording Bundle
If the economy has proven one thing it is that companies are increasingly sweetening their deals in order to get you to open your wallets and buy something. The Digidesign Mbox 2 Mini recording bundle is another great example of getting of ton of good stuff for a good price.
The Digidesign Mbox 2 Mini Recording Bundle consists of a Digidesign Mbox 2 mini interface, a pair of Alesis M1Active 320 USB Studio Monitors, a good sounding MXL 990 condenser microphone with shockmount, a 20 foot mic cable, heavy duty tripod mic stand, and a 3m RCA-1/4" dual patch cable. Purchased individually and you would expect to spend no less than $600 or so. Thus, this package really is aimed at those who want an all in one package they can utilize their own computer to actually provide the brains for all this hardware. Gone are the days when we would purchase all in one 4 or 8 track digital recorders!
Software wise this package also includes the very user friendly version of Pro Tools LE (which is plenty capable of doing basic to moderately advanced tasks with ease). I have a feeling that these packages are going to become a lot more popular. Bottom line- The Digidesign Mbox 2 is a great way to enter the digital recording realm with high quality components. One note - the Mbox 2 only allows for simultaneous 2 input recording- so if you have a bunch of mics (for drum recording) you will need a small mixing board in order to channel all of your tones into one input. Great device.
