Review: D-28M Merle Travis by Martin Acoustic
This special edition Martin features prim construction built to specifications of Merle Travis himself. Retailing for around $7999.00 this acoustic is by no means cheap but is best in class on all fronts.
The guitar is built from a neck of curly maple, giving it a truly unique yet solid feel. The top of the guitar is also absolutely stunning and made out of solid adirondack spruce. I was concerned that a spruce top might be on the slightly soft side and prone to debts and scrapes but the thick and quality varnish and finish if this guitar prevents that from happening. The fretboard is a dark and rich ebony and feels more like an electric guitar for that reason. This type of ebony is often times used by Fender in their various Strat bodies. The action is incredible and allows for almost effortless solos even in the upper frets.
The back and sides are equally lavish, as Martin this time chose to use rare solid Madagascar rosewood. Yes, you have read correctly, this one guitar features four very high quality and some rare woods. This makes a truly unique guitar. In honor of Merle Martin has gven this acoustic a distinctive headpiece that almost okks like a Fender Strats rather than the standard blocky Martin stock.
This guitar makes for an exceptionnstrumwnt that should also appeal to collectors ad well.
